Lachesis
Het Gheloove, a ship of 160 tons, with 109 crew on board, departed
June 27 in 1598 from Rotterdam, bound for the Strait of Magellan,
along with four other ships. After many adventures and
misadventures, Het Gheloove, returned alone to his homeland under
the command of Captain Sebald De Weert 13 July 1600.
In 1972, Mr. Nico Melkman of Amsterdam, inspired by this story,
decided to build a boat of his own, a Ketch 14.76 m LOA, planning to
name the boat like that one existed almost four hundred years
before, hoping to himself that the name would be a good omen and
good luck in his future travels. And so, turning the famous American
designer AE "Bill" Luders, began the construction of the hull, while
respecting the target Lloyds, the site Cheoy Lee in Hong Kong. Then
the boat was transported to Holland where it was finally assembled
and armed by the firm Wan Roon of Vlaardingen in the spring of 1973.
After nearly a decade, however, the boat was sold to Menzel Family
in Germany. The new owners decided to change the name in "Lachesis".
The owners decided to sail from Germany to the Mediterranean through
the Strait of Gibraltar, after skirting the coast of British and
French first, then Portugal and Spain. Italy was chosen as the abode
of reference, but the boat visited many places of this beautiful
stretch of sea: Greece, Turkey, Tunisia, the Balearics, Corsica,
Sardinia, Capri and the coast of the Tyrrhenian and the Adriatic
Sea. Since 1996, the boat remained moored in the port of Porto
Torres in Sardinia. Here, on 10 November 2000, Roberto and Tony Tola
became the new owners of Lachesis.
After many years of its manufacture in Hong Kong, Lachesis, however,
needs a radical restructuring: from keel to the tip of the mainmast.
In fact the boat was totally renewed by a team of technicians in
Porto Torres in 2001.
Actually "Lachesis" is in perfect status and good maintained.
In
the pictures shown here it is possible to watch the new and charm
internal design, red leather sofa, new toilette with automatic wc
The electrical implant is totally renewed, with an tecnologic command
panel.
Also the hydraulic implant is projected and realized in a workmanlike.
Engine is in very good condition, Turbo diesel by Yanmar, 55 Hp.
"Since 2001 Lachesis has been regularly maintained with regard to the
hull, engine, electrical and hydraulic systems. A clean now need the
trees, consisting of sanding and restoring the painting.
The boat is visible in Alghero, Sardinia.
