OWNER - Andrea & Jose - Luis Sagripanti
AREA OF SAILING - Baltimore/Chesapeake Bay
E-mail Andrea & Jose   Just bought in Oct. 03 she was neglected for many years.
These are Jose-Luis and Andrea with a 32 Offshore in the Chesapeake that, for lack of a name and needy condition we first called "Preposterous" After zillions of our work hours and eons of dollars, the project does not look so "Preposterous" any more and we are planning at the near launching "Pampero".
The list of work is insanely vast, including all new bronze through hulls, barrier coat, re-fastening and two-part caulking the teak deck (no more leaks), new J series Yanmar 40HP, huge muffler and goose neck inside a sound proof engine room, Awlgrip Proctor mast with vastly upgraded Cutter rigging, eight custom Pompanette port lights, removal rotten cabin paneling and replaced with new Formica, awlgrip outside cabin and cockpit (a lot of fun), reassembled steering with Edson engine controls and instrument console, etc, etc. Still need electrical upgrades, some sails, and much interior work but it should float very soon.
I got the system's plans (plumbing, electrical) from Cheoy Lee in Asia for this model and unbelievably, for this particular boat (since it seem to have been a show boat). I would be glad to share the plan but is very large and I am computer illiterate. If you know a way I would try to send it.

OWNER - Stephen & Carol Miller
AREA OF SAILING - Northeast Florida
E-mail Stephen & Carol  1/09  We bought our Cheoy Lee in 2000. Knowing from our survey that she would require major restoration (the hull was a minefield of blisters), we enjoyed her by living aboard for 4 months before having her hauled to our house, where she still sits on stands. Life -- including a new business, 4 kids, and 8 grandkids -- got in the way. We have attacked restoration with renewed gusto over the past several months. While she is still miles away from being what we envision, she should be dried-in sufficiently to put her back in the water soon. We will complete restoration while living aboard -- at the same marina, and in the exact same slip (destiny!) we had 9 years ago! We look forward to many years aboard. Thanx for the wonderful plethora of info on Cheoy Lees!

Leaving Kona Hawaii  March 31 2011  Heading back down to French Poly.

If ANYONE has one of these boats and has not replaced the Chain plates Do so before you sail it again.   I lost chain plates 1400 miles from Land last year. At one point there was only 1/8" of the Center chain plate holding up the mast on the starboard side. The front and rear had came apart. All six chain plates for the Shrouds are the same so if you remove one have them all made the same and they will work.   I made an External Chain plate for the back stay because the old one could not be removed it is  All Glassed in.  Chain plates looked good on top and at bottom with no rust streaks but they came apart where you can't see them just below deck level.
With new standing rigging she is a great cruiser.  Did 5.5 kt average day and night for 20 days  from Tahiti to Hawaii  And the first 2 days were slow so was doing 7 kts plus for a long time to make it up with very little sail up.

Pretty aggressive project.  I need the help of a Naval Architect concerning sail plan, mast placement, rigging, stepping.    I have an Isuzu Pisces 40HP I'm rebuilding, and the transmission, either French, Italian or Spanish, from an aviation company, is shot.  I need help finding out about this transmission.

OWNER -
Bill Davis
AREA OF SAILING - St. Augustine, FL
E-Mail Bill  He just acquired the boat from the original owner.  She has been neglected for quite some time.  Because of water damage, while sitting on stands in the boatyard, the veneer is all buckled and split, the engine is shot, and the mast is also rotten.  The first two he can handle, but he will be seeking the dimensions of the mast, to replace with an aluminum one.  He is also seeking advise about removing the teak deck to glass/non-skid.

AREA OF SAILING - Seattle, WA. Pacific Northwest
E-Mail Kim & Charles

The following info was given to us by the previous owner, James
Ariel, they are told by the original owner, is hull # 1 and the first Offshore 38 to come to the Pacific NW.  Dennis Greathouse, the owner of Greathouse Yachts in Seattle, was the original owner and traveled to Cheoy Lee Shipyards during the construction process.  Ariel was featured in Sea Magazine article show pictures of Ray Richards and Dennis Greathouse sailing this vessel.  We are the 3rd owners and have owned her for 6 years.  Ariel was originally built with wood sticks but was later changed to new aluminum spars.  She has a teak overlay on the sides of the cabin house and a 4.4 KW diesel generator under the cockpit sole.  Recent upgrades include a new set of stainless davits for her 10' Avon RIB and a new wind generator mounted on a stainless pole attached to her stainless radar arch.  They just returned 7/26/03 from a 30 day circumnavigation of Vancouver Islands.

E-Mail Jerry & Chris  Purchased vessel in Nov 2005. Transported via truck from West Port Conn to Norfolk Virginia. Currently on hard and undergoing restorations at East Beach Marina in Norfolk. Totally stripped and varnished her 48' Sitka Spruce Spar utilizing the West System. Was within 12 hours of stepping the mast when the old spreaders failed. Have purchased some new Sitka Spruce from British Columbia and will have the spreaders finished within a few weeks. Currently working on the Perkins diesel engine and a refit of all electronics with the complete Navman package. Will be launching her in April 2006 in her slip at Bay Point Marina in Norfolk Virginia where I plan to be a full-time liveaboard. Chris Stanley is the engineer and par-excellance skipper behind this operation. A better friend or skipper in a storm neither I or Aria will ever have !
